In mid-March, the Branch hosted its annual lecture competition, the Joe Morrall Award. The competition was held virtually and this year saw three young professionals present a series of interesting talks on a range of space-themed topics, including human medical factors, the Apollo 11 spacesuit and SpinLaunch.
While all the participants scored highly, it was Aerospace Engineering student Connor Atherton who won the competition with his presentation SpinLaunch – Against the tyranny of the rocket equation. Congratulations Connor and best of luck with your entry in this year’s RAeS N E Rowe competition!
The Branch would also like to thank Connor Morton and Maryam Latief for taking part and delivering two excellent presentations, as well as Nick Lay (Engineering Director – UK Defence, QinetiQ) and Geoff Clarkson (Group Lead – Systems Engineering, QinetiQ) for taking the time to judge this year’s competition.
