Secret Spitfires

Dear members,

In an exciting addition to our event programme, we have the opportunity to screen a film – “The Secret Spitfires of Salisbury” – exclusively before general release.  The film features Norman Parker, local historian, Boscombe Down archivist and branch committee member as the central character, and tells the forgotten story of how thousands of planes were built in factories hidden in sheds, garages and back gardens during the Second World War.  Eyewitnesses recount times of terrible sadness as well as joyous ones that include the arrival of GIs, a Glenn Miller concert and a Joe Louis boxing match.

You can visit the film’s website to find out more, and watch the trailer on Youtube.

The screening will be held in the Lecture Theatre at Boscombe Down on Tuesday 31st January 2017 at 1700 for a 1715 start.  We’ll also be holding a Q&A session with the production team and the star of the film, Norman, after the screening. There might even be popcorn! Usual security procedures apply, so if you do not have a hard pass, please get in contact with Ryan Potter (members@BoscombeDownRAeS.org) to ensure you’re on the guest list.

We hope to see you there,

Best regards,

Dr Sophie Robinson
Branch Chairwoman, RAeS Boscombe Down
