The RAeS Boscombe Down Branch invites you to attend the following Evening Lecture
Hybrid Air Vehicles: The Airlander 10 Project
David Stewart
BOSCOMBE DOWN / 8th March 2016

David Stewart is Head of Flight Sciences at Hybrid Air Vehicles Limited which is the manufacturer of the Airlander range of aircraft. David will describe the development and design of the Airlander; the largest, most innovative and greenest aircraft in the world today.

David will explain how Airlander combines aerostatics, aerodynamics and vectored thrust to provide unparalleled flexibility, capability and fuel economy. Airlander aircraft have the ability to carry extremely large payloads and take-off and land from any flat surface including grass, desert, ice and water.

Their endurance is measured in weeks and they can fly at over 100 mph. David will also discuss the current return to flight program, market opportunities and potential market size.

David will then explain the inherent safety of the Airlander and complete his lecture by describing Hybrid Air Vehicles’ commitment to outreach programmes that will help inspire younger generations.

David graduated from the University of Glasgow with an MEng in Aeronautical Engineering and then went to work in the aerodynamics department at QinetiQ Bedford. His primary role was to support the Flight Physics department at Airbus and was also worked on the Zephyr high altitude long endurance aircraft. He then joined CD-adapco as a (Computational Fluid Dynamics) CFD software support engineer before joining Hybrid Air Vehicles in 2010.
